Indonesia wins bronze medal in badminton

BEIJING (AP) Indonesia's Maria Kristin Yulianti has won the bronze medal in women's singles in the Olympic badminton tournament, defeating China's Lu Lan in three games.

After dropping the first game, the unseeded Yulianti recovered for an 11-21, 21-13, 21-15 win Saturday over the third-seeded Lu to give Indonesia its first medal of the Olympic badminton tournament.

Leading 20-15, Yulianti won the match when Lu's cross-court return off a smash went out.

China was hoping for a sweep of the medals podium in women's singles.

China's Xie Xingfang and defending Olympic champion Zhang Ning will play for the gold medal later Saturday.
