Region 1: Inaugural NC Open Badminton Tournament

The first NC Open Badminton Tournament was held last month in Morrisville at a new facility which has just recently opened.  Paul Knechtel and his crew of helpers did a great job of organizing this event – setting up nine courts, having a very good host hotel in the Wingate Inn, and arranging a dinner after play on Saturday evening.

Some of the events had small numbers of entries, but these events were run as round robins, giving the players plenty of matches.

I am very happy to announce that Charlotte Badminton Club was well represented and we brought home a good share of the awards.  I have listed below the events that Charlotte won or were the finalists.

 

Open Mens Doubles – Winners – Carl Khor/Pratap Joshi

 

Open Mixed Doubles – Winners - Prabhu Ramkumar/Jane Lee

 

U11 Boys Singles – Runner-up – Neo Vasudeva

 

U15 Boys Singles – Winner – Abhay Qureshi

 

U15 Boys Doubles – Winners – Abhay Qureshi/Neo Vasudeva

 

U15 Mixed Doubles – Winners – Abhay Qureshi

 

U19 Boys Doubles – Winners – Abhay Qureshi

 

Senior Mens Singles – Runner-up – Tass Qureshi

 

Senior Mens Doubles – Runners-up – Carl Khor/Pratap Joshi

 

Master Mens Doubles – Runners-up – Johnnie Ho/Ken Faulkner

 

Grand Master Mens Doubles – Runners-up – John Hewitt/Jim Greenlees

 

In addition, Abhay Qureshi got to the semi-final of Open Mens Singles, and Neo Vasudeva was third in U15 Boys Singles.

 

All in all, a very good weekend.
