USA BADMINTON JUNIOR NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
RANKING / SEEDINGS / DRAWS REGULATIONS
(Last Updated On May 17, 2005)

1) Adult ranking, if a player has it, will be used first before junior ranking. This is adult ranking on the date of deadline for entry for Junior Nationals.

2) Start with rank of finish in previous year's Junior Nationals for same age group event. Use top 4 from main draw and 5 from feed in consolation. May use 6-8 if team beat at least 2 teams to reach position 6-8. All finishes from Junior Nationals require two wins to be used for ranking.

2a) Doubles and XD - if none of the top 4 teams from the past year are playing together and one or 2 pairs, both members of which finished on a top 4 teams, are playing, those pairs receive #1 or #1 or #2 seeds before a 5 or 6 finisher of the previous year.

2b) Reformed teams may be ranked by numerical average of two players' ranks. If tie use the higher rank. If still tie, flip a coin.

3) Next come top 5 finishers from next lower age group event if they have moved up.

4) Review any head to head competition at a USAB sanctioned Juniors Tournament in the intervening year, a two wins by player A over player B drops player B below player A. There is no rating for strength of tournament because there are no established criteria for this.

5) See the number of players appropriate for bracket size per USAB rules.

6) Shadow seeding can be done based on -
a. Known results of 2 year previous Junior Nationals (player ill, injured, out of country during immediately previous Junior Nationals);
b. USAB sanctioned Juniors Tournaments;
c. USAB sanctioned Adult Tournaments;
d. BWF member country sanctioned international tournament.
(See USAB tournament regulations for full rules regarding shadow seed placement. Note as above that shadow seeds are based on categories of tournaments and do not require a specific result.)

7) Players from club or region will be randomly dispersed in draw, 3⁄4 seeds are by coin flip. For U-15 and below age groups, the 3⁄4 seed may be placed by club vs. the 1 & 2 seed clubs.

8) A draw committee will be formed to include a representative at the hosting club/site, the tournament referee, a representative of the USAB Region's Tournament Committee and a member of the high performance coaching staff.

9) Deadline for entries recommended 30 days before tournament date.

10) By 2 weeks (14 days) prior to tournament start, a tentative seeding list will be emailed to USAB Juniors Committee for comment.

11) Draw will be completed by 3 days prior to tournament start.

12) At coaches/team managers meeting the evening before play, challenges to the final draw will be discussed with panel of draw committee, tournament referee, chair of Juniors Committee.

13) All challenges must be submitted by 4 hours before event in question. Challenges must be on the basis of items 1 thru 7.

14) Redraws- If a top 4 seed withdraws from a bracket, reseed and redraw. If other entrants withdraw 3 days or less, no redraw is done unless there are compelling reasons including -
a. error by seeding-draw committee;
b. a lopsided draw that is one major quartile or 1/8th of the draw has too few players in it;
c. a change in the number of allowable seeds.
If there are withdraws 3-7 days before the tournament, committee has discretion about whether or not to do a redraw.
