Athlete List Criteria

BADMINTON

2019

Qualifying Prerequisites

To receive any or all benefits available through the programs below, an athlete must meet the following qualifying prerequisites. The athlete concerned must:
– be a current USAB member in good standing
– be in good standing with WADA, USADA, BWF and USAB with regards to anti-doping
– must be injury free to compete in BWF sanctioned events in the next 2 months
– must have signed up as a USAB Podium Target Athlete program (PTA)
– must be currently training and competing in the BWF sanctioned tournaments
– must be U.S. citizen in good standing or a Permanent Resident with the intention of attaining U.S. citizenship before the next Olympic Games
– must provide a quad training plan* to USAB National Office at the beginning of the calendar year which will be reviewed and approved by USAB
– must provide a competition plan* to USAB National Office at the beginning of the calendar year which will be reviewed and approved by USAB

Tier 1 Resources

Athletes who meet the Tier 1 criteria below will be eligible for the following USOC resources:
– Direct Athlete Support (DAS)
– Elite Athlete Health Insurance (EAHI)
– Olympic Training Center (OTC) Access
– Sport Science Service Provision
– Sports Medicine Service Provision
– National Medical Network (NMN)
– OTC Recovery Center

January 1, 2019 – December 31, 2019
Results achieved between January 1 – December 31, 2018 are eligible to be used as automatic qualification criteria outlined below.

Note *
1. Athletes will be subject to removal from the PTA if the approved plan is not adhered to.
2. Changes to any plans must be communicated to and approved by National Office in advance.

Tier 1
Athletes can be considered for Tier 1 benefits through any two (2) result from the below:
– Top 10 World Ranking
– Top 4 finish in World Tour 1000
– Top 4 finish in World Tour 750
– Top 4 finish in World Tour 500
– Top 4 finish in World Tour 300
– Beat top 4 World Ranked player

Athletes can be considered for Tier I benefits through any three (3) results from below:
– Top 15 World Ranking
– Top 8 finish in World Tour 1000
– Top 8 finish in World Tour 750
– Top 8 finish in World Tour 500
– Top 8 finish in World Tour 300
– Beat top 8 World Ranked player

For EAHI:
Athletes must remain in good standing to receive EAHI benefits for the duration of their Tier 1. Athletes who choose to break their commitment to the Tier agreement or do not meet the primary prerequisites of Tier 1 and the bench marks for Tier 1 will be removed from EAHI effective immediately. Athletes who are removed (by choice or agreement expiration) have the option to remain on the insurance program at their own cost for up to one year.

Should an athlete decline his/her slot, that slot will remain unused.

Tier 2 Resources

Athletes who meet the Tier 2 criteria below will be eligible for the following USOC resources:
– Olympic Training Center Facility-Use Access (OTC)
– Sport Science Service Provision
– Sports Medicine Service Provision

Tier 2 Criteria

January 1, 2019 – December 31, 2019
Results achieved between January 1 – December 31, 2018 are eligible to be used as automatic qualification criteria outlined below.

Note *

Tier 2
Athletes can be considered for Tier 2 benefits through any two (2) result from the below:
– Top 20 World Ranking (does not need secondary qualification standard)
– Top 8 finish in World Tour 1000
– Top 8 finish in World Tour 750
– Top 8 finish in World Tour 500
– Top 8 finish in World Tour 300
– Beat top 8 World Ranked player

Athletes can be considered for Tier 2 benefits through any three (3) results from below:
– Top 16 finish in World Tour 1000
– Top 16 finish in World Tour 750
– Top 16 finish in World Tour 500
– Top 16 finish in World Tour 300
– Beat top 15 World Ranked player

For EAHI:
Athletes must remain in good standing to receive EAHI benefits for the duration of their Tier 1. January 1, 2019 – December 31, 2019

Athletes can be considered for Tier 3 benefits through any two results from below:
– Top 30 World Ranking
– Top 16 finish in World Tour 1000
– Top 16 finish in World Tour 750
– Top 16 finish in World Tour 500
– Top 16 finish in World Tour 300
– Top 8 finish in World Tour 100
– Winner at an International Challenge/Series
– Beat top 30 World Ranked player

Under the discretion of the USAB and the USOC, athletes may be recommended to be considered for USOC resources.
