Mixed Doubles and Men’s Doubles Play for U.S. on Day 3 of Paris 2024

Only two U.S. pairs played on the third day (July 29) of play at Paris 2024. Vinson Chiu and Jennie Gai continued play in Mixed Doubles Group D while Chiu and Joshua Yuan continued play in Men’s Doubles Group D.

In Mixed Doubles, Chiu and Gai faced Singapore’s Hee Yong Kai Terry and Tan Wei Han Jessica in the morning session. The U.S. pair battled hard in the first game, losing close 17-21. They fared worse in the second game, falling 12-21. This match was the final one for Chiu and Gai in Mixed Doubles Group Play.

In Men’s Doubles, Chiu and Yuan faced Japan’s Takuro Hoki and Yuko Kobayashi. The pair had a slow start to the first game before they hit a groove leading up to the 11-point interval, going in down 5-11. The U.S. pair was able to win a few hard-earned points in tough rallies but would lose the first game 11-21. The second game started similarly to the first, with another rough start, going into the interval down 2-11 as Japan put heavy pressure early in each rally.
