USA Badminton Mourns the Passing of Sir Craig Reedie

USA Badminton joins the global badminton and Olympic community in mourning the passing of Sir Craig Reedie, who passed away at the age of 84.

A former international badminton player and President of the Badminton World Federation (then the International Badminton Federation), Sir Craig was one of the most influential figures in the modern history of sport. He played a pivotal role in securing badminton’s inclusion in the Olympic Games, a milestone achieved at Barcelona 1992, which transformed the global profile of our sport.

Beyond badminton, Sir Craig’s impact extended across the Olympic Movement. He served as Chair of the British Olympic Association, Vice President of the International Olympic Committee, and President of the World Anti-Doping Agency, where he championed integrity and clean sport at the highest levels.

“Sir Craig Reedie’s contributions to badminton and the Olympic Movement are immeasurable,” said USA Badminton’s Interim CEO John Ruger. “His leadership helped elevate badminton to the world stage, and his lifelong dedication to sport leaves a lasting legacy for athletes and federations worldwide.”

Sir Craig will be remembered not only for his visionary leadership, but also for his unwavering commitment to the values of fairness, integrity, and global unity through sport.
