A Look Back at USA Player Results at International Tournaments in 2024

With the Olympic and Paralympic qualification ending in the Spring of 2024, the year of 2024 has been an exciting journey for USA athletes.
We are very proud of all U.S. Badminton and Para Badminton athletes’ accomplishments in Paris and cannot conclude 2024 without mentioning the history making achievement of SH6 para-athletes, Miles Krajewski and Jayci Simon. The 19-year-old pair won the Silver Medal in Mixed Double at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, France. This is the first U.S. medal for badminton and para badminton in the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The pair not only put up a great fight in the Mixed Doubles event, but also in their SH6 Men’s Singles and SH6 Women’s Singles events respectively.
In the interview after the Gold Medal match, Miles and Jayci expressed their profound joy and gratitude. They acknowledged the challenges but were encouraged by the unexpected journey to the Mixed Doubles Finals. “Even though we didn’t win gold, making it this far is incredible,” Jayci said. They also emphasized how the experience to play against highly experienced opponents will serve as a valuable lesson and stepping stone for their future.

Seven badminton athletes represented USA in all five events at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games:
- Women’s Singles – Beiwen Zhang
- Men’s Singles – Howard Shu
- Men’s Doubles – Vinson Chiu and Joshua Yuan
- Women’s Doubles – Annie Xu and Kerry Xu
- Mixed Doubles – Vinson Chiu and Jennie Gai
All seven USA athletes fought hard during the group stage. Many matches were exciting and nerve wracking (in a good way!).
Beiwen Zhang finished first in group stage and advanced into the Round of 16. Though facing a narrow defeat against Carolina Marin from Spain, she became the most decorated US Olympic athlete by advancing to the Round of 16 in two consecutive Olympic Games.
This is the first Olympic Games for Vinson Chiu, Jennie Gai, Joshua Yuan, Annie Xu, and Kerry Xu.

In 2024, USA Badminton also hosted the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 YONEX US Open 2024 held in Fort Worth, Texas. At the tournament, Women’s Doubles pair Annie Xu and Kerry Xu reached the Semifinals, and Beiwen Zhang reached the Finals in Women’s Singles.
