A Look Back at USA Player Results at International Tournaments in 2025

USA Badminton athletes delivered an impressive year of performances across the global badminton circuit in 2025, showcasing depth, resilience, and continued growth at international tournaments spanning five continents. From elite Super 1000 events to Grade 3 tournaments, athletes consistently dominated the podiums.
A Year of Great Results
In 2025, USA Badminton athletes achieved quite an impressive array of medals.
- 18 Gold medals
- 12 Silver medals
- 22 Bronze medals
The year began with strong performances at the highest levels of international badminton. At the Malaysia Open, HSB BWF World Tour Super 1000 tournament, Olympian Beiwen Zhang advanced to the quarterfinals in women’s singles, setting the tone for another consistent season. The Pan American Cup Mixed Team Event followed in February, where the USA team captured silver.
February also brought international titles, as Lauren Lam and Allison Lee captured gold in women’s doubles at the Uganda International Challenge, marking the first of multiple podium finishes for the pair during the year.
Spring competition saw Americans finding success across Europe and Latin America. At the Polish Open, Lam and Lee continued their momentum with another gold medal. Enrico Keoni Asuncion earned a bronze medal at the Giraldilla International Tournament, while Mark Shelley Alcala captured his first International Challenge title at the Mexican International Challenge, where USA athletes filled multiple podium and quarterfinal positions.
In April, 19 US athletes competed in the 2025 Pan Am Individual Championships in Lima, Peru. Hermes Zhi Yi Chen and Presley Smith defended their Men’s Doubles title, Lauren Lam and Allison Lee won the Women’s Doubles event, and Presley Smith and Jennie Gai secured Bronze.
In June, the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 YONEX US Open 2025 returned to Council Bluffs, Iowa. June was a great highlight of the domestic calendar, with Beiwen Zhang claiming gold in women’s singles. Four doubles pairs made quarterfinals on home soil, with the mixed doubles pair, Presley Smith and Jennie Gai, clinching a bronze medal.
Throughout the summer, USA athletes continued the winning streak. Presley Smith and Jennie Gai earned multiple podium finishes in mixed doubles, including silver at the YONEX Canada Open (Super 300), while quarterfinal appearances across Macau and Europe showed growing consistency against strong international competitors.
At the 2025 Pan Am Junior Championships held in Guatemala City, Guatemala, the USA U19 team secured Gold in the Team Event. This is the fifth year in a row the team has won the event (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025). In the Individual Event, USA athletes medaled a total of 16 golds, 11 silvers, and 19 bronzes.
Additionally, the 2025 FISU World University Games were held in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany. The USA participated in both the Team and Individual Events. In the Individual Event, Ella Lin finished as a semifinalist in the Women’s Singles event. Earning a Bronze medal in the WS event, this is the second medal USA Badminton has won at the FISU World University Games.
The fall exhibited success across Central America and Asia. Enrico Keoni Asuncion captured gold as well as his first international medal in men’s singles and men’s doubles at La Perla del Otún Future Series, while Ella Lin, Disha Gupta, and Ishika Jaiswal consistently reached podiums in women’s singles events throughout the season.
In September, a group of USA senior athletes (35+ and above) competed in the BWF World Senior Championships. The group finished with Tony Gunawan winning Gold in the 40+ Men’s Doubles event (partner Hendra Setiawan, from Indonesia) and Bin Lin winning the 60+ Women’s Singles event.
In October, the USA U19 athletes competed at the 2025 BWF World Junior Championships. Leaving their mark on the world stage, the USA U19 team beat Team Korea and secured 7th place in the Team Event. Leading up to this win, the U19 team also put up a good fight against Team Japan and Team Malaysia, losing 2-1 to both badminton Asian powerhouses.
Late-season highlights included standout performances at the Santo Domingo Open, XVI Mexican International, and Guatemala International Series, where American players collected multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals across all events.
The year concluded with strong finishes at the El Salvador International, Canadian International Challenge, Bangladesh International Challenge, and the Astana International Challenge, where U.S players secured medals at all three tournaments, capping off a season marked by competitive consistency and international success. Closing out the year, Francesca Corbett and Jennie Gai secured their first medal together at the Australian Open 2025 (Super 500 tournament, WD semifinalist – Bronze).

The 2025 international season showcased the continued growth of USA Badminton on the world stage, from experienced veterans delivering elite results to emerging athletes making their mark internationally.
