Event Update – Selection for International Badminton U16 Shonai 2023

USA Badminton has accepted the generous invitation to send one male singles player born in 2008 or later and one female singles player born in 2008 or later to the International Badminton U16 Shonai 2023. The Shonai Invitation is a singles only event and will be held July 1-2, 2023 in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Japan. The US team is to arrive in Japan on June 29, and depart Shonai on July 3, 2023.
After careful consideration, USAB has decided that this Selection is best held at an ORC so players will not have to travel to a separate event and to allow broader player eligibility than the PAJC/WJC selection.
The Arena Badminton Club will host the Selection event for the Shonai Invitational which will be held in conjunction with the SoCal ORC from February 18-20, 2023. The Shonai Selection will be a separate, non-ranking tournament, either single elimination or pool play, based on number of entries. There will be a separate prospectus for Shonai Selection. Those playing in the Shonai Selection may not play in any other singles event at the SoCal ORC. USAB reserves the right to adjust this rule depending on the number of entries in the Shonai Selection event.
Who Can Compete:
- Any current member of USA Badminton in good standing, who meets the age criteria and eligibility criteria below. Non-members must join USA Badminton (https://usabadminton.clublocker.com/) prior to entering online
- Born 2008 or later and
- U.S. citizens living in the U.S. and outside the U.S or
- Non-U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents (Green Card holders) living in the U.S. with long term U.S. visas (living and/or studying in U.S.)
