Remarkable First Round at the Indonesia Open 2026

American players put up quite a fight at the Indonesia Open Super 1000 tournament which is running from June 2nd-7th this week.
The USA was represented by Presley Smith/Hermes Zhi Yi Chen in Men’s Doubles, Francesca Corbett/Jennie Gai as well as Allison Lee/Lauren Lam in Women’s Doubles, and Presley Smith/Jennie Gai in Mixed Doubles.
Francesca Corbett and Jennie Gai had a remarkable start to the tournament. The pair managed to beat China’s Jia Yi Fan/Zhang Shu Xian, the number 4 ranked women’s doubles pair. Facing formidable opponents, with Fan being the Paris WD gold medalist at the Paris Olympics when she played with Chen Qing Chen, Corbett and Gai fought hard to win. The match resulted in a final score line of 21-9 10-21 23-21.
“Definitely our best win,” touted Corbett, for whom the achievement doubled as an unbeatable 21st birthday gift. Gai reflected, “I’m glad we were able to just encourage each other and just to keep our focus, and I think moving forward it’s still going to be very hard, but having this confidence maybe can help us do better.”
