Team USA 2022 BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals Recap

The 2022 BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals took place in Bangkok, Thailand starting on May 8, 2022. Although Team USA’s journey in this event has ended at the group stage, the athletes showed effort and passion throughout the tournament and are eager to return.
Team USA sent eight women and five men to compete in the 2022 BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals. Coach Dennis Christensen supported both teams throughout the event. The Uber Cup Team qualified for the Uber Cup Finals by winning the Continental Pan Am Cup. The Thomas Cup Team was runner up in the Pan Am Cup and was invited to Thomas Cup on May 2nd to replace New Zealand.
“I am proud of the teams and their efforts on and off court,” said Coach Christensen.
In the Uber Cup, Team USA was placed in Group D with Korea, India, and Canada. On May 8, USA fell to Korea 0-5.
On May 10, USA fell to India 1-4 with Lauren Lam and Kodi Tang Lee pulling off an impressive win over India’s Simran Singhi and Ritika Thaker (21-12, 17-21, and 21-13).
On May 11, USA faced Canada and narrowly lost 2-3. Lauren Lam pulled off an impressive victory against Michelle Li (23-25, 21-14, and 22-20). Jennie Gai defeated Canada’s Talia Ng (12-21, 21-12, and 24-22).
In the Thomas Cup, Team USA was placed in Group D with Japan, Malaysia, and England. On May 9, USA fell to Japan 0-5. On May 10, USA fell to Malaysia 0-5.
On May 11, USA faced England and was defeated 1-4. William Hu defeated England’s Cholan Kayan in three games (13-21, 21-17 and 21-8).
