USA Badminton Announces Final Roster for the Olympic Games Paris 2024

Team USA will be competing in all five Badminton events with seven athletes including 2020 U.S. Olympian Beiwen Zhang and 2016 U.S. Olympian Howard Shu.

Colorado Springs – USA Badminton is set to send a full team of athletes to compete at Paris 2024 from July 27 – August 5. With the addition of Men’s Singles athlete Howard Shu (Los Alamitos, CA), the U.S. will be competing across all five events with seven total athletes. Paris 2024 will feature the most U.S. badminton athletes in the Olympics by matching Rio 2016’s mark of seven athletes.

Beiwen Zhang (Anshan, LiaoNing, China) headlines the group as the highest ranked in the world (World No. 10). The Women’s Singles athlete is making her second Olympic Games after previously competing at Tokyo 2020. She advanced out of Group Play before her journey ended in injury in the Round of 16. Following her recovery, she has most recently won a gold medal in Women’s Singles at the XXVII YONEX Pan Am Individual Championships 2024 and a gold medal at the 2023 Pan American Games.

In Women’s Doubles, twins Annie Xu and Kerry Xu (San Jose, CA) are making their Olympic Games debut as the only twins competing together as teammates at Paris 2024 for Team USA. Ranked as the World No. 32 pair, they recently won a silver medal at both the XXVII YONEX Pan Am Individual Championships 2024 and the 2023 Pan American Games.

In Men’s Doubles, Vinson Chiu (Newport Beach, CA) and Joshua Yuan (Foster City, CA) will also take on their first Olympic Games as the World No. 44 pair. They won a bronze medal at the XXVII YONEX Pan Am Individual Championships 2024

Vinson Chiu is the only badminton athlete to qualify in two events for Paris 2024 as he is joined by Jennie Gai (Fremont, CA) in Mixed Doubles as the World No. 30 pair. The two won a silver medal at both the XXVII YONEX Pan Am Individual Championships 2024 and the 2023 Pan American Games.

Rounding out the team is Howard Shu who will be competing in Men’s Singles as the World No. 78. Shu is making his second Olympic appearance after previously making his first at Rio 2016.

The athletes will be supported in Paris by Olympic Head Coach Ding Chao, Personal Coaches Naoko Fukuman and Harry Tan, Team Leader Esther Lin, and Press Officer Trenton Szeto.
