  • All USA players must be USAB compliant (USAB member/SafeSport trained/NCSI background checked) and complete the 2025 Code of Conduct for Athletes form.
  • All players must have a BWF ID to be entered in the 2025 BWF World Senior Championships (see instructions above)

Age Categories

  • Players are eligible to compete in a given age category if they have reached the relevant age by 1 January of the tournament year. The table below specifies the “Year Born or earlier” requirements:

Number of Entries

Each Member is entitled, for every age group, to enter:

  • Singles – 4 males, 4 females
  • Doubles – 8 males (4 pairs), 8 females (4 pairs)
  • Mixed – 4 males + 4 females → total of 4 mixed doubles pairs

Selection Criteria When Entries Exceed Allotted Spots

Although we do not expect every age group or event to reach capacity, should more players/pairs express interest than there are spots available (for example, if more than four +35 players request to participate in Men’s Singles), the following criteria will be used for selection:

  • For U.S. Citizens & Non-U.S. Citizens for all Events (Singles/Doubles/Mixed):
    1. Citizenship Priority: U.S. citizens will be given priority over non-U.S. citizens when the entry cap for an age group is exceeded.
    2. Performance Ranking: When available, national ranking and past performance (including results from Asian/European Championships, BWF sanctioned tournaments, and prior world ranking) will be used to rank entries. Only performance from USAB sanctioned or BWF sanctioned tournaments will be considered.
    3. Time of Submission: If the number of entries remains above the cap after applying the above criteria, the remaining spots will be allocated based on the order in which entries were received (i.e., first-come, first-served).

The results of the Entry Request Form will be reviewed and used to guide which entries will proceed to the final submission stage, ensuring that all players meet both BWF and USAB criteria.

2. Tournament Format & Seeding (from BWF tournament prospectus)

Disclaimer: If there are any discrepancy on Tournament Information (#2, #3, and #4) between the USAB announcement and the BWF World Senior Championships tournament prospectus, please follow BWF tournament prospectus as they might have updated the Tournament Information after USAB’s announcement.

Match Formats

  • Knockout Draws: For events with more than 16 entries, a straight knockout format will be used.
  • Group Play: – For events with 1–5 entries, the event will be played as a league (round-robin) without a knockout stage. – For events with 6–16 entries, the event will start with group play, where—for instance—if there are 6–10 entries the top two players per group advance to a 4-entry knockout stage; if there are 11–16 entries, the top two from each group qualify for an 8-entry knockout stage.

Seeding

  • The seeding process will take into account results from previous World Senior Championships, Asian & European Championship performances, and players’ past world rankings.

There shall be one seeded entry per group as follows:

      • Group A: Seed 1
      • Group B: Seed 2
      • Group C: Seed 3/4
      • Group D: Seed 3/4

For knockout draws, if there are more than 16 entries:

  • The first and second highest ranked entries from a Member will be drawn by lot into opposite halves of the draw.
  • The third and fourth entries will be drawn by lot into the remaining quarters.

For events using group play only (i.e., 1–5 entries), no national separation of entries will be applied; and if group play is followed by a knockout stage (6–16 entries), the first and second ranked entries from a Member will be drawn into separate groups, ensuring that players from the same Member avoid each other in the first knockout round.
