USA Para-Badminton in Three Medal Matches on Final Day at ParaPan American Games 2023

The USA Para-Badminton athletes continue their impressive run at the Santiago 2023 ParaPan American Games as they enter the final day of competition in three medal matches. In the gold medal match for Women’s Singles SH6, Jayci Simon takes on Peru’s Carmen Giuliana Poveda Flores. In the gold medal match for Men’s Singles SH6, Miles Krajewski takes on Brazil’s Vitor Tavares. In the bronze medal match for WH1 Women’s Singles, Amy Burnett takes on Canada’s Yuka Chokyu.

The semifinals of Men’s Singles SH6 saw Miles Krajewski face Peru’s Nilton Quispe Ignacio. In the rematch from the 2022 Pan Am Championships finals, Krajewski defeated the Peruvian again with scores of 21-6 and 21-19. He moves on to face Brazil’s Vitor Tavares in a rematch from the 2019 ParaPan Am Games finals.

The semifinals of Women’s Singles SH6 saw Jayci Simon taking on Rubi Milagros Fernandez Vargas in a rematch from earlier in group play. Simon played an even better match than their first meeting in the tournament, winning 21-10 and 21-14. She goes into the finals to face the World No. 2, Peru’s Carmen Giuliana Poveda Flores.

In Women’s Singles WH1, Amy Burnett faced No. 1 seeded Danielle Torres Souza from Brazil in the semifinals. It was a rematch from earlier in the tournament and Souza was victorious again, winning 21-3 and 21-5. Burnett will face Canada’s Yuka Chokyu in the bronze medal match.
