Congrats to Rose Lei & Geoff Stensland – Gold Medalists at 2021 BWF World Senior Championships!

The 2021 BWF World Senior Championships were held from November 28, 2021 to December 4, 2021 in Huelva, Spain.
In the women’s singles +70 group, Rose Lei represented the U.S., going undefeated in Group C against Denmark’s Irene Sterlie, Belgium’s Nelly Halsberghe, and Sweden’s Gabriele Johansson.
Lei advanced to the semifinals, where she defeated Sweden’s No. 2 seed Lieselotte Wengberg, 21-15 and 21-13, and then won in the finals against Denmark’s Jette Nielsen, 22-20 and 21-16.
Lei also participated in mixed doubles +70, partnered with South Africa’s Johan Croukamp. They defeated England’s Steven Sellick and Vera Groves, 21-13 and 21-12, but fell to the No. 1 seeds from Denmark Christian Hansen and Iren Sterlie, 21-23, 21-15, and 11-21.
In men’s doubles +60 group, Geoffrey Stensland partnered with Canada’s Jack Keith Priestman. The pair earned a win against Taiwan’s Chang Wen Sung and South Africa’s Dawei Fan, 21-14 and 25-23, in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, they defeated Sweden’s Bengt Åberg and Per Areskar, 21-9, 18-21, and 21-18. In the finals, they won against Denmark’s Joergen Jepsen and Lars Kruse, 21-13 and 21-19.
Stensland also participated in men’s singles +60, defeating Italy’s Maurizio Fuda, 21-5 and 21-8, and Sweden’s Per Areskar, 21-17 and 21-10, before falling to Taiwan’s Chang Wen Sung 14-21 and 18-21.
In men’s singles +55, U.S. player Bhupinder Sandhu fell to Sri Lanka’s Wijekoon Niroshana, 17-21 and 12-21.
